Intro
When I first stepped foot Into High Tech High International, I went in with the wrong mentality. What I mean by that is last year at Kipp Adelante I understood the majority of the assignments, History, Algebra, and even Science. When I came to the class I envisioned that everything I learned this year was just going to be review. That wasn’t what happened. It was mind blowing how I’ve seen a difference in myself from now since the beginning of the year. My name is Cesar Alberto Villalobos, and I am 15 years old, and I’am currently In the 9th grade at HTHI. Today I will discuss some of the changes I’ve had to make within myself.. I will also discuss my proudest moments in the projects I have done and also my goals for next year. Body 1 One of the assignments I’ve worked on that shows revision would be the Greek Play project. The play project was to create a play of a tragedy. A requirement was to write a story that best fit the the theme of tragedy. The two people I worked with was Mannix and Clarisa. The three of us chose “not to turn your back on people” as the theme of our tragedy. My group and I choose turning away from people as our problem. Once we picked our them the story was easy for us to write.to us. It was going to take place Vietnam. When my group and I turned in the very first draft we got a good score from Erin. There was just some minor adjustments. One of the changes we needed to make was changing two characters from really close friends to brothers. Another change that we had to do was choosing who of the people has to die in the play. Something that I did that changed that story in a positive way was the storyboard outline. After my group turned in the completed revisionized work our grade improved. Revising the script for the play made me realize that I need to improve in my writing skills. What I noticed about revising is it does not always mean going back and changing everything but it can be going back and realizing mistakes in the work and fixing those. I used to think that when a teacher told me to revise something I would simply start over. Body 2 I learn best with a small group of students. I am a visual learner, like talking about the topics, and I learn by doing, in other words I learn through hands on experiences. When a teacher explains something throughly and shows me the step by step process I find it easier to grasp the material. Something that comes easy to me is Math and Physics. Jocelyn showed me the work step by step and it helped. What I’ve realized as a learner this year has been I know how much work I need to put into my assignments. I especially know how much work I have to put into every project. For example, for the greek play project, I was in charge of the backdrop. When something went wrong I was willing to stay after school for as long as it took to fix a problem. Now I know I can sacrifice a few hours of my free time to get the outcome I want. Body 3 The work I’m most proud of for this year would be the pinhole project. The project was to go on the internet and find a website that helped us with directions on how to build a camera that exposed light onto a piece of film. When I got all of my materials I was allowed to build my pinhole. I had to get a matchbox, black paint, an empty aluminum can, tape, a boxcutter and film. When I took the first pictures with my pinhole the film was underexposed, meaning I need to expose the film to the light for a longer amount of time. What I did to fix the problem was to sand the back of my pinhole and expose the film for a longer of time. After two weeks of working on my pinhole camera Jocelyn assigned the students and I to take a picture of ourselves. At the beginning of the second part of the pinhole project my camera wasn’t working very good. When I found out what was wrong with my camera I made the above mentioned modifications and I took another picture with my pinhole I got this image. For this assignment a proud moment was after all of the hard work getting an image like this to come from my pinhole camera. It shows I met my goal for the project which was to get a self-portrait. The grade I received was a B. This assignment reflects my hard work, representing my struggle and determination to make my camera work and not give up.
