San Diego through the lends
San Diego Through the Lens
Project Requirements
This project was to study neighborhoods that make up San Diego County. Our group chose to study Coronado. We had to study the history of Coronado, how it has changed over time, what the present day community is like, and the influence it has on San Diego County. A requirement was to interview at least three people, one from each generation (a youth, an adult, and an elderly). As part of the community aspect we had to look at what type of cuisine Coronado is know for. We discovered a lot of pizza places and that it is home to Moo Time, which is a popular ice-cream shop, known for is its huge portion sizes. For the final presentation of our work we had to make a documentary. We had to record our interviews and taking video footage in Coronado.
My Contributions
For the project I was in charge of how Coronado changed over time. I researched the population change, and how much it increased. I gathered the population data from documents in City Hall on Coronado Island. After that I researched what restaurants and type of food Coronado is known for. The best part of my job was sampling the food. At Moo Time I ate “The Crown Brownie,” which is a 5 inch brownie with 8 scoops of ice-cream on top and a 4 inch brownie on top of the ice cream and whip cream on top of the brownie. After I completed that research I was in charge of editing the video in iMovie.
Reflections
My favorite part of this project was getting off school campus, going out into the community and meeting important community members. I enjoyed interviewing people, Cliff Mar was my favorite. He has held major positions in public office, he spoke about the pride he has for helping the community through his positions. I thought he was an impressive speaker.
Something I would do differently is choose my group partners more wisely. There was a lot of slacking off in our group. Everyone I wanted to work with was already in a group. I learned this is an example of bad time management. In the future I will manage my time wisely so I can ask people in advance if they want to work together. Also, I learned not to be a slacker because it is annoying to work with that person.
